Introduction

The University of the Algarve (UAlg), founded in 1979, is a Portuguese public higher education institution located in the Algarve, the southernmost region of Portugal. It has four campuses, three in Faro and another in Portimão.

With more than 8,500 students registered in 2015/16, the main activities of the UAlg are teaching and research in the following scientific areas: science and technology, management and economics, earth and marine sciences, social sciences and health. The UAlg offers 51 postgraduate and 107 postgraduate programs (82 MSc and 25 PhD). its 768 Faculty and research staff participate in a significant number of research and development projects in the fields of the sea, health, food and well-being, arts and heritage, tourism and education, some of which are carried out within the framework of international cooperation programs, with the aim of promoting the innovation and deliver excellence. Regarding international mobility programs, the UAlg has participated in the Erasmus program since 1993 and holds an Erasmus Charter.

All five campuses have a Global Lounge, an activity space at each HVL campus where you can meet other international and Norwegian students and enjoy fun activities together.

The evidence of the results of the policy of internationalization of the UAlg lies in the coordination and successful associations in numerous projects in cooperation programmes, such as the Lifelong Learning Program (Erasmus, Leonardo da Vinci, Grundtvig, Comenius), Erasmus Mundus (EMA1 and EMA2), Tempus, Alfa, Atlantis, Edulink and Erasmus + (KA1, KA2 and KA3). the UAlg it has also signed more than 150 bilateral agreements with HEIs around the world. * Type, scope of work and areas of activity of the Organization: Regarding the activities and experience of the organization in important areas for this project, this University has extensive experience in coordinating and participating in various projects of national and international cooperation funded by the EU, such as those requested in this call.

The UAlg has participated in the LLP program (Erasmus, Leonardo da Vinci, etc.), Tempus, Edulink, Erasmus Mundus and Erasmus+. In Within the framework of the Erasmus Mundus programme, UAlg coordinates/participates in action 1, specifically through the EJMWCM, EMQAL, EMBC, ECOHYD, IM NLP & HLT, ChIR, WACOMA, NURSING, MARES and MACOMA projects; Y in action 2 TRIPLE I, BMU, IIY, BMU-MID, MID, SALAM, SALAM2, FELLOW MUNDUS, EM-ECW CHILE, EM-ECW MIDDLE ASIA and EM-ECW ACP.

Carolina M. Silva F. Sousa



Carolina M. Silva F. Sousa is a retired professor and researcher at the Centre for Education and Psychology (CIEP) at the University of Évora. She holds a PhD in Education with a specialization in Educational Psychology from the University of Minho, and completed a PhD internship at the René Descartes University in Paris. She has also earned a Master's in Educational Sciences and a degree in Philosophy.

Sousa has taught at several institutions, including the University of Huelva in Spain, where she directed doctoral theses. She regularly participates in PhD juries at the Autonomous University of Madrid and collaborates with universities in Andalusia on education for resilience. In 2004, she proposed and coordinated an international doctoral program in multicultural education at the University of Huelva.

António Carlos Camilo Correia De Lacerda


Current dean of the Faculty of Education and Communication at the University of Algarve and coordinator of the master's program in Communication Design focused on tourism and culture. He has been a member of the CIAUD research center at the University of Lisbon since 2007. His research focuses on visual identity, including symbols, typography, and branding for economic, social, and cultural development.

He founded the design studios Fuel-Design and DesignThinking and has led numerous projects, workshops, and exhibitions blending communication design with culture. He is the president of the National Association of Designers in Portugal.

Pedro Manuel Maia de Oliveira Martins Calado


Member of the Portuguese Architect’s College (Ordem dos Arquitetos), with an architectural practice from 1998 to 2019, specializing in single-family housing and commercial spaces. He also worked in editorial design and commercial architecture photography. Teaching Experience: Collegiate Teacher at ESEC/UAlg since 1995, and has taught at ISMAG/ISMAT (2001-2003) and the Communication Design Master's Degree at FA/UL (2009/10). Since 2019, he has been an Adjunct Professor (Specialist) at UAlg, serving as Deputy Director of ESEC/UAlg, Director of the Communication Design degree, and Director of CTeSP in Design and Multimedia Technologies.

Hugo Mártires

Current assistant guest lecturer at the Faculty of Education and Communication (ESEC) at the University of Algarve, and postdoctoral researcher in communication design, focusing on digital activities related to resilience. Education: PhD in multicultural education from the University of Huelva. Experience:Has lectured at international institutions such as UNIR (Spain) and Zaman University (Cambodia). Her research examines the impact of technology on education. She is also an Erasmus+ project coordinator and co-coordinator of several projects.

Maria Leonor Borges



Professor at the Faculty of Education and Communication (ESEC) of the University of Algarve, Department of social sciences and education. Education: PhD in education. Experience: Research fields: Teacher education, Educational inequalities, Inclusive education. Research center on adult education and community intervention (CEAD) – work funded by national funds through FCT - foundation for science and technology under the project UIDB/05739/2020.

Jorge Tomás Ferreira Santos

Senior Lecturer at the Higher School of Education and Communication (HSEC) at the University of Algarve. Education: BA in Arts Education (National Conservatory of Lisbon), BA in Music for Film Animation (Royal College of Art, London), DipEd in Music Education (University of London), MEd in Music and Arts Education (University of Wales, Cardiff). Experience:Lecturer in music and arts education at HSEC/UALG; researcher in the Erasmus+ project "Reaching the hard to reach" (2017-2020), collaborating with schools and universities across five EU countries.

Current assistant guest lecturer at the Faculty of Education and Communication (ESEC) - Department of Communication, Art and Design of the University of Algarve. Postdoctoral researcher in the fields of Art and Creativity, linking them to the problem of resilience. Education: Phd in multicultural education from the University of Huelva. Experience:Research linked to the creative process and author of the Creative Process Evaluation Scale. Previous lecturing experience in international universities: Zaman University (Phnom Penh, Cambodia). Aurízia Anica

Coordinator professor at the Faculty of Education and Communication (ESEC) of the University of Algarve. Director of the social sciences and education department for education and communication school and two education master’s courses. Education: PhD and MSC in anthropology from the new University of Lisbon. Experience: Researcher of the institute of literature and tradition studies - heritage, arts and culture (IELT). Coordinated the edition of several ebooks about active ageing, children and education. Published two books about violence and justice in the XIX century, and dozens of papers devoted to issues of education, ageing and women.

Carla Alexandra Gonçalves


Current adjunct professor at the Faculty of Education and Communication (ESEC) of the University of Algarve (since 1999), Department of exact, natural and sport sciences, field of didactics. Education: PhD in education sciences from the University of Évora. Master's degree in chemistry for teaching from the faculty of sciences of the University of Lisbon. Degree in technological chemistry faculty of sciences of the University of Lisbon. Experience: Throughout the years, has promoted several training courses for kindergarten teachers and primary school teachers, as well as for teachers in higher education.
