Resuperes Subject Teaching Guide

NEEDS ANALYSIS:

RESUPERES has identified the need to create intervention proposals in the form of courses within Higher Education, addressing the training needs of both students and teachers, to develop essential emotional and psychological skills for facing academic, personal, and professional challenges. The identified needs include:

  • • The lack of courses, content, and resources for preparing students for life and work, with resilience emerging as a key competency in today’s workforce, where constant change and uncertainty prevail.
  • • The rise in university dropout rates, as many students leave university due to emotional difficulties, academic stress, or a lack of coping strategies for handling problems.
  • • The need to improve mental health and well-being, as university life can be challenging, and learning how to manage emotions and difficulties can reduce the risk of anxiety, depression, and burnout.
  • • The need to enhance personal and professional development for both students and faculty in higher education.
  • • The need to foster a stronger university community, working to improve resilience across the entire academic community.
  • • The need to create pathways that develop resilient competencies such as teamwork, leadership, creativity, and interculturality, which are essential for both personal and professional growth, counteracting the predominantly content-focused nature of traditional academic curricula.

OBJECTIVES:

The main objective was to design and create a Teaching Guide and Subject content centered on the concept of Resilience, intended to serve as a reference guide for inclusion in the curricula of all university programs. This is due to the lack of parallel training on aspects of resilience, overcoming adversity, and for the benefit of educators as well. The subject, developed within an international context of European higher education, aims to cultivate resilient university teachers and students. It seeks to:

  • • Help both students and teachers understand and manage stress, pressure, and failure in a positive way.
  • • Foster resilience and equip them with tools to overcome obstacles and continue with their academic pursuits.

By developing resilience in students, the university as a whole becomes a more positive, collaborative environment with fewer conflicts.

DESCRIPTION:

The RESUPERES Subject was developed based on an extensive review of books, resources, and materials that explore the concept of resilience. It was created as a Resilient pathway aimed at developing resilience, but with a focus on practical application, addressing the current demand for tools to improve physical and mental health within the university context.

Regarding the content and structure of the Subject, a unified Teaching Guide has been created and agreed upon by all partner countries, along with individual guides for each country, taking into account the specific context of each university. These guides can be found in the annex section. As a result, five distinct pathways have been created to facilitate the Implementation of the Subject in any university or educational level.

Additionally, all content for the teaching guide has been developed, drawing from our Manual, activities conducted and assessed during LTT activities, and proposals from each country within their expert area. The subject structure includes both theoretical and practical content aimed at developing resilience, with a dedicated section for a program of activities in each module.
